# APTD Nomenclature and Lineage

## Current canonical expansion

From APTD paper v1.0 forward:

**APTD = Autonomic Persistence and Transition Device.**

The current name reflects an architecture wider than an exposure or training unit. It includes an autonomic runtime boundary, authenticated physical interface, qualification, persistence, authority/history separation, governance, recovery, and transition.

## Historical expansion

Earlier internal materials used:

**APTD = ATAL Portable Training Devices.**

That use belongs to the earlier ATAL exposure/training context, including governed sensory-affective training frameworks and individual exposure devices. A June 2026 source inventory records two historical source names relevant to that lineage:

The inventory reference establishes that the older names existed in the historical record. It does not, by itself, promote the referenced documents into current public implementation evidence.

## Lineage rule

Historical artifacts retain the meaning they had when created. They are not edited to replace the old expansion, and the current name must not be projected backward into those records.

The v1.0 paper widens and clarifies the architecture; it does not claim that the new expansion existed earlier. When an older artifact uses APTD, readers should resolve the term from that artifact's date and context.

## Claim boundary

This terminology change does not establish a completed physical APTD, a production runtime, autonomous execution authority, machine consciousness, sentience, AGI, or biological equivalence. The physical APTD threshold remains not yet demonstrated.
